BRAZILIAN  JIU JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is founded of efficient movements and has been refined throughout the decades by the practitioners and their students. This combat-tested method of fighting is intended to teach practical self-defense through submission grappling.  This style promotes strong grappling and ground fighting techniques.  Practitioners develop balance and control, and can defeat much larger and stronger opponents.  Students train with a uniform or GI.  This provides for a more advanced grappling strategy and allows the student to be prepared for self-defense while being clothed with a jacket.  Training can also be done without a gi. Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is taught by Professors Liam and Melissa Kerrigan and whom are both Black Belts under Professor Fernando Sarmento JR.

MUAY THAI KICKBOXING

Muay Thai, a martial art from the country of Thailand, utilizes all of the body's natural weapons to create a devastating striking fighting style.  People train Thai Boxing because it is a competitive sport in the ring as well as being useful on the street.  In Thai Boxing, hand techniques are similar to western boxing, adding strikes with elbows, knees, and kicks. At Stafford MMA, our Muay Thai Kickboxing program will provide you with the best workout you have ever experienced.  Jumping rope and calisthenics are a part of every class. Practical offensive and defensive techniques are delivered on pads to provide complete resistance training. Nothing can compare to a complete stand up martial arts work out!!

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is one of the oldest known sports to man kind. It was a part of the original Olympic games. In this class you will combine the striking skills from the Muay Thai Kickboxing class as well as the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class to  learn how to defend yourself from an attacker.  We start on our feet, learn how to close the distance, takedown, and control your opponent on the ground.  You will also learn how to defend an aggressive attacker who is trying to tackle you to the ground.   In this class you will learn how to not only defend strikes on the ground but also reverse control of a dominant position to deliver your own strikes or apply a submission. This class can be used for self defense or students can also use this class as a sport if they so chose. Students who wish to take this class must attend Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu for a few weeks first to develop a foundation to be more well prepared for MMA class.
